  I was selected to take part in a Nuffield Research Placement, giving me 2/3 weeks' hands-on experience working in the mechanical engineering department of the University of Leeds alongside a PhD researcher.My research title was “Investigating Triboelectric Charge Transfer: Effects of Material Composition and Sliding Speed in Metal-Polymer Contacts.” I was trained on the UMT-TENG machine to conduct an experiment investigating the phenomenon of the Triboelectric Effect and I used it to test how charge accumulation is affected by different compositions of materials and sliding speed. This gave me the experience of handling useful engineering technology, which made me significantly more confident in setting up and conducting experiments.Once I conducted the experiment, I went on to use MAT-LAB code to analyse the data I collected, which is a useful skill to have as an engineer as it enables me to translate instructions from the human language into a language that machines made by engineers can interpret.I went on to report my findings in a detailed 3500-word scientific report about my experiment along with a poster. This demonstrated my ability to handle complex projects like this experiment and making me more fluent in being able to communicate and present difficult concepts.
