As the BI lead, I am responsible for turning the mass of data we have at the port into information that can be used to optimize performance, lower safety incidents, and increase profitability.When I started in the role there was no Business Intelligence environment and the company was very early in the stages of understanding the data they had. As it was a complete greenfields project, time has been spent educating staff as well as building infrastructure to convey information.

As the manager of the DB & BI team I am responsible for ensuring industry standards are followed across our internal SQL Servers as well as a number of other core functions.* Report Design and Development (SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Excel and Qlik Sense)* SQL Development (internally developed database design and consulting)* Data transformation and integration (SQL Server Integration Services)* Management report creation (financial)* SQL scripting of views, stored procedures, triggers, and maintenance * Data Analysis * Engage with the executive team to develop their reporting requirements, including reporting for the board. Routines have been designed to automate as much as possible* Provide direction and guidance to those working in my team* Establish process and reporting to on-board mergers and acquisitions Another part of my role was external client consulting, this involved assisting guiding clients on their Business Intelligence journey. In order to successfully guide clients, it was imperative that I quickly immerse myself in the issues, goals, and potential of the data a company has presently as well as quickly identify any gaps in data.As the manager of the BI and DB team I was also tasked with going to market to find a Business Intelligence tool which would fit the business. Part of the process included working with stakeholders throughout the business to ensure the selected product would meet key requirements. Once the product was selected, I drafted a full business case with supporting financials to go to the board, the capital was approved and less than 3 months later the product was installed, configured and serving the business.

As the founding member of the Performance Tuning team, I set up the methodology and process for locating bottlenecks to performance. Worked closely with external clients in maintaining their databases, setting up and maintaining Disaster Recovery as well as improving performance.Working closely with clients to understand their requirements with regards to their database environment and their goals with outsourcing part of or all of their support.

As a part of the Analytics Team at Trade Me • Web Analysis using Google Analytics, Flurry, Splunk and Nielsen• Adhoc reporting across a range of business units; motors, jobs, marketplace and Holiday Houses• Working closely with the Finance team in improving the month end reporting• Building SSRS reports• Working closely with business departments in order to build close relationships and understand requirements

In my capacity of Production Support, I have responsibility for ensuring that all First NZ Capital Production Systems are operational, and to resolve any production issues as they arise. This includes trouble-shooting, development of resolutions as required and relationship management of our key stakeholders and the users of our systems.I am also tasked with special projects on an as required basis. For example, in support of the organisation meeting its anti-money laundering compliance obligations, I developed a number of queries across our (complex) trading systems that enabled me to produce datasets that could then be analysed within the parameters specified by the compliance requirements. I optimised these queries so that most queries operate in under 5 seconds (despite running across millions of rows of data). Once the project is completed this will enable us to meet our compliance obligations with minimal effort / performance degradation.Another example is a CRM implementation that I took responsibility for. I implemented a CRM solution for a subsidiary company. The implementation involved the identification of suitable providers, short-listing, business casing the preferred option, working with the selected vendor and ensuring that the system was successfully implemented into our production environment.In support of the production systems I have also had to resolve legacy issues by developing solutions in older technologies such as VB that have allowed systems to operate in a more efficient and up to date manner.

Key responsibilities included:• Management of all databases associated with Microsoft Licencing. This includes databases for most Microsoft subsidiaries around the world.• Creation of reporting services reports when required and bug fixing, development as required.• Development of SQL queries, including joins, unions and temporary tables to facilitate data analysis.• Provision of services to Microsoft internal clients for all queries related to licencing.• Provision of services to internal clients at Accordo, related to licencing and data manipulation / reporting.

In the role of Technical Support Analyst I provided helpdesk services to law firms and surveyors who needed to perform title searches or who had other technical title related enquiries.Responsibilities included:• Providing legal firms with technical support to enable them to complete land transfers, using the Land on Line application.• Providing technical – login assistance where required.• Advising law firms of the paperwork and other requirements to complete a land transfer.• Providing technical land transfer advise, where required.

The workforce planning analyst role was responsible for forecasting resource / staffing requirements, helping senior management to optimise staff hiring on a one year rolling basis and helping to optimise service level management.
