I led a process improvement project with John Deere in Greeneville, TN, to reduce the impacts of the welding department bottleneck by designing and implementing a new production planning process based on demand forecasts and current facility performance metrics. This project focused on three deliverables that aimed to improve operations: a capacity exploration, a buffer stock requirement plan, and a production scheduling optimization. - Created a Value Stream Map (VSM) of current-state product flow through the welding, painting, and assembly departments across four production lines to identify process bottlenecks and refine the scope of the improvement project- Developed a comprehensive plan to ensure optimal buffer stock levels, enhancing production flow, reducing overproduction, and mitigating risks, contributing to a 28% decrease in inventory holding- Designed and implemented a 5S floor tape Kanban system for visual control of buffer stock levels, improving inventory management and on-floor organization- Formulated a Mixed-Integer program model to construct welding-specific production schedules and satisfy constraints, aiming to minimize changeover and inventory holding costs while meeting demand requirements. - Developed a production scheduling tool utilizing Excel, Python, Gurobi optimization software, and PowerBI to generate dynamic production schedules that redistributed work to balance production in alignment with business needs, reducing overtime costs by $69K - Evaluated the automated scheduling tool on its ability to maintain productivity, respond to demand variability, decrease inventory holding and mitigate congestion.
