About Sofia Rose Smith

I am a facilitator, mediator, deep listener, liberation-based anti-oppression trainer, writer, and speaker on social justice issues and how to care for ourselves in the work we do. I help people feel seen and heard. I am highly skilled in supporting connection and feelings of safety, and I specialize in helping folks embody and practice diversity, equity and inclusion.I currently work as a Senior Associate with The Aspire Group, and a Trainer + Facilitator with the Center for Council. I am deeply impacted by my own training with the Trauma Stewardship Institute, Generative Somatics, Lumos Transforms, as well as the ancient teachings of Buddhist meditation alongside yogic philosophy and asana. I’m skillful at facilitating emergent processes, teaching folks practices that bring about deep listening as a social change tool, storytelling, reflection, navigating the gift of conflict, anti-oppression and equity, and embodied mindfulness. My passion project has been the Queer + Feminist Visionary Immersion — a 6-month small group deep dive at the intersection of healing justice, personal development, and community building. I have also co-hosted healing retreats & workshops for diverse communities, from tech companies to local groups. Before this, I worked as a Program Manager at the Los Angeles LGBT Center, where I facilitated dozens of programs for and with queer and trans youth of color. I am a strong community liaison. I expertly managed the workshops portion of the annual, award-winning Models of Pride (www.modelsofpride.org) conference, the largest LGBTQ youth conference in the world.I am a champion of paradigms of sustainability, rest & self care for activists, artists, & cultural workers.
