Within my dual Master's programs in Translational Neuroscience and Neuroscience, I am engaged in a collaborative thesis project under the guidance of Dr. Celia Kjærby and Professor Sara Mednick. This research focuses on understanding and modulating arousal levels throughout the sleep stages in mice, utilizing EEG, EMG, and fiber photometry (FP). Through the application of signal processing and machine learning techniques, we aim to elucidate the role of arousal in different sleep patterns and examine the potential cognitive benefits of vagus nerve stimulation on memory.Key skills developed through this project include:- Fabrication of EMG/EEG electrodes and proficiency in EEG/EMG/FP/vagus nerve stimulation surgeries.- Advanced MATLAB skills for signal processing and data analysis, critical for the interpretation of neural recordings.- Utilization of the Synapse system on a RZ10 rig for precise neural recording, alongside expertise in sleep scoring methodologies.This project not only advances my technical skill set but also contributes to the broader understanding of sleep's impact on cognitive functions.

As a R&D worker on the Data Acquisition Systems and Analytics team, I've had the opportunity to engage with a diverse array of projects, significantly enhancing my proficiency in Python. My work has included leveraging the machine learning application DeepLabCut for advanced analyses. This experience led me to develop a post-processing tool tailored for hindlimb-clasping analysis, a project we are hoping to release soon.Surrounded by hardware and electrical engineers, I've sharpened my skills in hardware applications, including building computers and soldering electrical circuits. The end products of these endeavors are currently in use for mouse experiments within the company, testament to the practical impact of our collaborative efforts.In my capacity as a student assistant, my role primarily supports various projects, yet I've been entrusted with substantial responsibilities. This includes performing the mapping and post-processing of data derived from applications I've contributed to developing. The level of trust afforded to me has enabled the delivery of high-quality work that directly impacts the insights provided to end users.

My wet lab training encompasses a wide range of techniques, providing me with hands-on experience in PCR, inoculation, optogenetics, calcium imaging, fiber photometry, and conducting behavioral experiments with mice. Additionally, I have gained skills in immunohistochemistry, advanced microscopy techniques, and animal vivisection, ensuring comprehensive expertise in both the theoretical and practical aspects of neuroscience research.

My role as a research assistant has involved intermittent contributions to various projects, encompassing the analysis of MEG (Magnetoencephalography) data utilizing MNE Python for signal processing, Bayesian modeling, and evaluating the effects of COVID-19 lockdowns on wellbeing through data visualization techniques.Through my work on the Aarhus Brain Project, I gained substantial experience in FMRI data collection, physiological data gathering, and precise electrode placement. This project also enhanced my skills in participant management, including recruiting, screening, and scheduling participants with the use of REDCap software.

In my capacity as a research assistant under Dr. Crafa, I was engaged in multiple projects where I honed my diverse set of skills. For one project, I created a script in PsychoPy for a contagion scale, revised consent forms, and assisted in data collection, including ethnographies and questionnaires. This role required adept multitasking, effective problem-solving, and technological troubleshooting to ensure the success of our research activities.In another project, I specialized in preprocessing and analyzing EEG data using BrainVision Analyzer and R. My responsibilities extended to performing both primary and secondary level analyses and selecting Regions of Interest (ROI) in preparation for a comprehensive report. While the outcome did not lead to a publication, the experience of drafting a substantial report underscored my capability in research documentation and contributed significantly to my analytical and writing skills.
