As a researcher, I am interested in forms of collaboration between journalists, scientific experts, scientific institutions (and their PR staff), citizen groups, and political actors within the news production process. My research currently focuses on a citizen science case set up by a newspaper organization, university, and government organization and examines, amongst others, the construction of expertise, professional identity and practices, news values and (de)politicization processes. I approach this case from a linguistic ethnographic perspective. On top of my research, I also: - Teach Economic English in the first and second year.- Teach sociolinguistics research methods seminars to third-year students.- Guide Linguistics & Literature and Multilingual Business Communication students with their bachelor's or master's thesis. - Represent other PhDs and Postdocs on the Faculty Board.- Present science communication events or moderate science communication debates. Together we ran a popular science blog www.wtnschp.be (in Dutch), organized science fairs, robot competitions, science cafés, science festivals, and science comedy nights. I worked as a communication officer at the Science Outreach Centre of the Erasmushogeschool Brussel and Vrije Universiteit Brussel. I co-founded and ran the popular science website: www.wtnschp.be. I was also responsible for the social media in our department. I coordinated the Science Bar Brussels, these are monthly scientific debates for a broad public.All throughout the year I gave (social) media training to researchers at our institution.
