Project Coordinator

Munich Ministry Of Cultural Affairs And Regierung Oberbayern (Bbk)

Munich, Germany

Project coordinator of a cultural exchange between Mayan weavers from Guatemala and weavers/artists from Germany: Through grant writing, I obtained a total of 30,000 euros to implement a cultural exchange project in Munich, Germany. This project expanded the visualization of women artisans' struggles to keep their textile art alive in the midst of a globalized world that supports capitalist models of textile industry. Through a series of participatory workshops, weaving sessions, talks and a final textile exhibition, women weavers exchanged experiences, knowledge and strengthen their support networks. The documentation of the project is still in progress using a combination of visual anthropological methods: photography, interviews, video, and the design of a virtual gallery. This documentation seeks to spread awareness of the importance of local economies, artisanal production techniques, the art embedded in artisanal weaving and to reflect on the environmental impact of the fast fashion industry. Research Associate

Cultural Bridge Uk

Germany And Scotland

Research associate of the BESPOKE project: This is a cultural exchange between Kulturzentrum LUISE, and Make Works Scotland. This partnership emerged from the interest in engaging and developing communities of purpose-driven creative producers in Edinburgh / Glasgow (Scotland) and Munich / Bavaria (Germany). Their practice is rooted in: local production, artisanal manufacturing and grassroots networks. This project has a focus on strengthening local economies, environmental sustainability, and the adaptation of populations (communities, local producers, artisans, artists, etc.) to the challenges of extractivist economies, climate change and the impact of global capitalist industries. Through Bespoke, they will collaborate to strengthen international learning and action on these topics. Researcher

Research on indigenous intellectual property rights: delving into issues of cultural appropriation, extractivism and performative allyship. The fieldwork explored how different types of non-material extractivism (academic, epistemological and ontological extractivism), have a negative impact on the motivations of indigenous women weavers to establish alliances with non-indigenous people. It also analysed how non-material extractivism affects local indigenous economies through plagiarism, cultural appropriation and labour exploitation by designers and the fashion industry. This research was conducted with indigenous women members of the organisation AFEDES, and members of the National Movement of Mayan Weavers of Guatemala. In addition to written documents, to present the results of this research I designed an exhibition in a virtual art gallery where viewers could interact with the different elements displayed in the exhibition. During this multidisciplinary project I worked with different types of organisations in urban and rural areas. Research Assistant

Guatemala

Longitudinal research on sex education, mobility and health and reproductive rights of indigenous girls and women in Guatemala. During this research we monitored the mobility of girls of different ages, as well as their access to safe spaces in their communities to receive education. We identified areas of risk and obstacles (social, economic and environmental) in their communities that prevent girls from attending programmes on women's rights, sexual and reproductive health, sex education and women's independence.
