Providing technical support to BMGF’s Gender Equality team on their Adolescents and Social Norms Learning Agenda.

Advanced the use of a continuous program improvement approach and provided guidance and support to program teams at headquarters and country offices to integrate social and behavior change (SBC) models into their program strategies. • Championed the use of behavioral science in program design and pioneered the adoption of the Fogg Behavior Model, a practical model used by BMGF program teams and multiple grantees. • Conceptualized and drove development of the iterative program improvement approach, Responsive Feedback, a learning approach widely used by BMGF’s implementing partners in Nigeria.• Spearheaded the foundation’s learning on social norms and outcomes for adolescent girls and young women, culminating in the Gender Equality team’s strategy on adolescents and social norms.• Leveraged $40M to integrate SBC into BMGF’s COVID-19, FP/RH, and Gender Equality programs. Prepared scopes of work and selected grantees and contractors.• Developed a portfolio of grants to demonstrate proof of concept of how social media interventions can increase COVID-19 vaccination uptake.• Partnered with USAID for 3 years to establish a global community of practice (CoP) on social norms, with chapters in Nigeria, India, and East Africa, leading to improved measurement and implementation of social norms programs across Africa and Asia.• In close collaboration with GAVI, WHO, UNICEF, and the CDC, established the Vaccination Demand Hub platform, accelerating the use of tools to increase COVID-19 and routine immunization uptake.• Led a donor collaboration for 3 years, resulting in increased coordination of investments in SBC.• Leveraged $10M as investment capital to drive more than $40M of investments in SBC across the foundation’s Gender Equality, Family Planning, HIV/AIDS, Water and Sanitation, and Nutrition teams.

Responsible for generating evidence to increase the effectiveness of USAID’s flagship MCH Program designed to reduce maternal and child mortality. Manage a team of 10 program and research staff with a budget of ~$3M.• Developed the Results Framework and monitored the performance of partners implementing USAID’s $200M health sector investments in Sindh province.• Conducted the first study to observe the quality of labor and birth care in health facilities in Pakistan, leading to the development and implementation of a quality assurance program. • Evaluated the factors that impact antenatal care, breastfeeding and the adoption of facility delivery to improve program design and reduce the risk of maternal death.

Managed and provided oversight to the $30M social marketing project designed to reduce HIV/AIDS risk, increase family planning and safe water use in Mozambique.• Oversaw the design and implementation of evidence-based HIV/AIDS, family planning, and safe water interventions; ensured project compliance with USAID regulations. • Built performance monitoring and evaluation systems to ensure consistent improvement over time.

Responsible for increasing the use of evidence-based programming by PSI’s local affiliate which had received $100M from multiple donors for family planning and maternal and child health programs. Managed a team of 12 including program and research staff. • Conducted experimental studies which provided the first evidence of the effectiveness of performance-based financing (PBF) in increasing facility delivery among women in rural Pakistan.• Presented evidence to donors and obtained $10M in donor funding to increase facility delivery in Sindh and Punjab provinces.• Conducted observational study of quality of family planning service delivery by private midwives and physicians, leading to the implementation of a quality improvement program.

Served as Research Director on USAID’s Private Sector Partnerships project to increase family planning service delivery through the private sector. Supervised Masters and PhD students. Received a $2.5M grant.• Developed and implemented a Performance Monitoring Plan for USAID’s flagship $250M private sector program to ensure program effectiveness.• Conducted studies on quality improvement for private midwives in Uganda; reproductive health service delivery in Kenya, Ghana, and Tanzania; social franchising and family planning service utilization in Nepal.

Responsible for testing innovative approaches in family planning service delivery. Supervised 3 researchers. • Evaluated the impact of microfinance on the quality of maternal and child health services delivered by private midwives in Uganda.• Assessed the impact of commercial marketing approaches on the equity and sustainability of contraceptive markets in LMICs.
