My time with the ENGG1100 team taught me much, pushed me hard and was very enjoyable. Attached is my SETTutor evaluation for the semester.
  • Ugl
    Mechanical Tradesperson
    Ugl Feb 2016 - Feb 2019
    Goonyella Riverside Mine
As a part of the wash-plant maintenance crew, and later the parts-staging team, i was tasked with creating an integrated data collection spreadsheet using Microsoft Excel that enabled:- Multiple SAP transactions to be displayed in a single interface- Automatic staging location lookup based on functional location- On site data collection on status of parts using portable "tough pads",- collated KPI data displayed graphically on interactive dashboard page and,- allowed collaboration from multiple departments simultaneously.Using colour based conditional formatting i was able to encode a large amount of information at-a-glance and turn excel into a data collection tool in addition to its data manipulation and presentation attributes. The spreadsheet was an overall success and it is still being used today as the sole method for parts staging, furthermore it is in the process of being made into BHP Billiton application with the intention of implementation at multiple sites.

    Laverton North, Victoria, Australia
For the engineering placement part of my role i was tasked with creating a detailed preventative maintenance (PM) schedule for 34 blow moulding machines, this included initially creating databases of the different components and settings for each machine that were deemed important for consistent machine operation, key parameters included:- Accumulator model, size and pre-charge pressures- Hydraulic system (strainers, filters, tank volume)- Mechanical lubrication (manual or automatic)- Granulator blades (size, model)These databases were then used to create a schedule to ensure PM work was completed at regular intervals and included a record keeping spreadsheet to aid in identifying issues with equipment. The spreadsheet was built using Microsoft Excel to recognise patterns where machine oil tanks or accumulators were topped up greater than two intervals consecutively and highlighted the machine as high priority for repair, it was also built to record an oil cost per machine, highlighting the machines that were costing the most in oil leaks. This information was used by the maintenance engineer to triage more costly machines for maintenance and reduce overall running cost of the plant. The trade part of my role at was to carry out the PM schedule, collecting data throughout the process, it also included general maintenance and breakdown assistance when requiredNote** Deferred university for 1 semester to work for UGL at Goonyella Riverside from March to August 2018
