Technical development of community solar and Community solar+ storage projects.

Led the engineering and operations for deployment of solar microgrids to provide power to villages not currently connected to the utility grid. Electrified 15 communities in Ghana, 28 communities in Sierra Leone, and won contracts for 20 projects in Benin and a further 10 projects in Liberia. Built construction and engineering teams to design and deploy projects and complete project planning. Led portfolio project cost and energy estimation. Developed Energicity's minigrid meters and led development of the minigrid metering solution with more than 4000 meters deployed. Led maintenance operations of minigrids and built technical operations team to handle emergency and routine maintenance teams. Developed in-house tools for design & simulation of solar minigrids and conducting data analytics.

Working to solve long term issues of renewable integration into utility grids and weak grids. Supported business development for hybrid solutions within SunEdison globally, including sales in South America, Africa, Asia, and Australia. Aiding in development of simulation tools for hybrid and energy storage solutions to provide optimized solutions for sales of hybrid projects.

Conducted system analytics to measure and analyze performance of systems. Managed energy estimation derates and energy estimation software standards for SunEdison. Developed python code for automating system analysis and identifying issues on SunEdison’s large fleet of systems. Utilized analysis to improve energy forecasting and modeling. Created Python code for determining optimal time for cleaning systems in the southwestern United States taking into account historical rainfall data and past system performance to analyze soiling rates along with the cost of cleaning and revenue potential from the systems.

Responsible for managing of engineering opportunities from initial point of sales to contract signing. Managed preliminary design, sales site visits, and proposal support. Responsible for energy simulation and prediction of all projects using PV Syst 5.0. Responsible for coordinating with finance and construction to provide initial designs and requirements for pricing of power purchase agreements and system estimates. Have worked on and won a number of large systems including 50 MW in New Mexico for SPS and 10 MW for APS in Arizona.

Managed projects from the initial point of sale to installation for commercial and building integrated photovoltaic systems. Conducted site surveys and generated design and quotes. Oversaw installations and commissioning. Monitored, repaired and maintained existing systems in the Chicago area. Developed and installed data acquisition systems for monitoring energy output and weather data of installations.

Repaired a stand-alone PV system that was installed five-years ago and had stopped functioning. Evaluated software for the design of photovoltaic systems. Wrote applications for grants to provide funding for new projects.

Responsible for determining customer electrical requirements and electrical sizing of modules to meet those requirements. Ensured production modules were meeting customer requirements. Performed quality testing and designed tests for lifetime testing. Tested new laminate materials for product improvement and cost reduction. Solved problems in assembly of cells into modules and aided in re-designing assembly methods of modules.

Conducted technical characterizations of Renewable Energy Technologies for the Department of Energy. Built technological and economic analysis models of energy storage systems, hybrid-electric transit buses, and renewable generation systems. Worked with the IEEE for standards on batteries used in remote area power. Validated simulation of a battery and diesel peak shaving system. Also put together the Annual Operating Plan for the Department of Energy’s Hydrogen Program.
