As Sr. Specialist I was responsible for the health, performance and integrity of Syncrude’s GHG Program covering policy analysis, business plan impacts, regulatory & compliance, evaluation of carbon abatement options, net zero roadmaps and the approval of changes to official GHG calculations for regulatory, investor and stakeholder purposes.Once Syncrude transitioned to Suncor, I led the integration of Syncrude's GHG Program to share learnings and ensure alignment. A successful integration was realized across key corporate teams: Decarbonization Strategy, Business Planning, Finance, Economics, Government Affairs, Regulatory & Compliance, Development, Projects, Operations and R&D.Today, Syncrude’s GHG Program is being used by Suncor as the model for building successfully integrated GHG Programs across its Upstream and Downstream assets. I mentored and coached Suncor team members on how to improve the effectiveness of the GHG Programs and Carbon Abatement Portfolios at each site.

I led the development of Syncrude’s GHG Strategy, GHG Program and Net Zero Assessment to compete in a low carbon world.Success required the understanding of a progressive GHG policy environment, regional plays, different decarbonization scenarios, building GHG business literacy across the company and leading a senior cross functional team to develop and implement project opportunities across Operations, Development, Projects and R&D.The result was an industry leading GHG Program that explored 5 Strategic Levers: Reliability, Energy Efficiency, Oil Sands Technologies, Product Diversification and Clean Technology Development. All underpinned by a cross functional team that was working together towards a common goal.

I led the implementation of the Heavy Oil GHG Strategy, development of the GHG Business Plan and management of the Specified Gas Emitters Regulation (SGER) program across the mining, upgrading and in-situ assets. This included leading the Carbon Offset Team responsible for the procurement of carbon offsets for Shell facilities in Alberta ($MM per year portfolio), as well as co-leading the GHG Technical Team with representation from Operations, Mid-Range, Development, Commercial and R&D.

I ensured compliance with provincial and federal regulations which included Alberta’s Specified Gas Emitters Regulation (SGER), Air Monitoring Directive (AMD), Continuous Emission Monitoring Code (CEMS) and the Canadian Council of Ministers of Environment (CCME) standards for mineable oil sands. Managed the regulatory reporting program and compliance audit requirements for the site. Represented Shell at various industry and government groups such as Woodbuffalo's Ambient Air Technical Committee and Alberta Environment's COGEN Technical Working Group to help develop policy that works.
