ARMED with only a camera, Mohammad Soleimanikhah taught a class of more than 20 refugee children the basics of photography at the Pandawas Academy in Ampang.Mohammad, who is known as Soli Art in the photography world, said he volunteered to teach them photography and graphic designing that could be useful in the future.“Since they are not allowed to work and do not have a passport, they will not be able to find a job in Malaysia.“As they move from one country to another, the combination of photography and graphic designing could be beneficial for them in future to earn an income,” he said at the academy’s Charity Photography and Art Exhibition Sale for Afghan refugee children in Ampang.Most of the children were from Afghanistan with the rest are from Iran and Pakistan.Mohammad said for the past three months, he taught the children the importance of lighting, shadows, aperture and shutter speed.“My class grew from one student in the first session to more than 20 students in the third session,” said Mohammad, an Iranian.He added that the photographs showcased were from his students who took the shots every week.“The photographs capture their emotions.
