As legal counsel, I work on a range of Business Law matters including civil litigation, corporate matters, and commercial transactions. In addition, I have a well rounded background in the agricultural and food sector. I started my career in agribusiness, working for a family business, and I hold graduate degrees in Agricultural Economics and Agriculture and Food Law. I am also the director of The Fisheries Law Centre - a not-for-profit research center in Canada with a focus on research, education and advocacy as it relates to fisheries law and regulations. I teach at the University of of British Columbia and at Dalian Maritime University in China. My research interest is in fisheries laws and regulations as well as fisheries economics. In particular, I am interested in conducting legal analysis to issues in fisheries management with special focus on small-scale fisheries and its overlap with human rights issues. I published in several academic and professional publications and I enjoy writing for several news agencies. I am fortunate to be invited as a Visiting Scholar at Harvard Law School in the 2015/2016 academic year. At Harvard, I facilitated a series of fisheries law seminars through out the year. I also carried on research on fisheries governance and I designed relevant curriculum on fisheries law. Through my work at Harvard, I aimed to raise awareness as to issues limiting access to justice for family and small-scale fishers.
