My art is a symbolic, surrealistic, and metaphysical statement on life/death, science/religion, psychology/sociology, and a study in the concept of good and evil, normal vs. abnormal, and sanity vs. insanity. My inspiration comes from my personal involvement with the Mental Health System, the Criminal Justice System, Law Enforcement, the Houston art world, and an immense library of books and comic books, along with a liberal dose of Dr. Seuss and beer. I have been drawing since I was 6 and my life has been an endless search for the meaning of life since then. Not that I’m any closer now, but maybe I’ve at least been able to narrow the possibilities down. Picasso said that art is for war, not decorating walls. Martin Luther King Jr said what affects one directly, affects everyone indirectly, and Dr. Carl Gustav Jung said that understanding does not cure evil, but it is a definite help and he observed that death is psychologically as important as birth. I think that art can provide a medium to unlock the mystery of our existence. With every person contributing a small piece of the puzzle, we can come closer to the answers. I’m just presenting my small contribution to the puzzle, but, normal is never defined and a mind once stretched by a new idea can never return to its former shape.
