Somalee is currently a Hospital Medicine physician at Kaiser Permanente. She is also the Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Health Transformation (Heat) at NEERMAN, an independent non-profit organization that provides engineering, economics and policy solutions in environmental and health sectors. In addition, she currently does healthcare delivery research with the Kaiser Permanente Division of Research in Northern California studying equity in access to care at a large, fully integrated health system. She is a board certified Internal Medicine physician in California. She also has experience with clinical practice and health systems strengthening work in rural and urban settings in India. She holds an M.D. from Washington University in St. Louis and a Masters in Public Health from University of California, Berkeley. In addition to the clinical experience gained as practicing physician in the United States, Somalee has experience in studying health care delivery in resource limited settings in India. She has worked in India and the United States assessing clinical care process flows and improving efficiency using Lean quality improvement methods. She also has worked in rural Malawi studying treatment methods for malnourished children using Ready-to-eat-Therapeutic-Food (RUTF). Somalee’s toolkit includes working with STATA, and conducting GIS mapping using Matlab and ArcGIS.
