CurrentSonia has provided advice on Aboriginal legal matters and related environmental assessments, negotiations, regulatory and constitutional issues. Sonia has expertise in consultation and accommodation processes for major projects in energy, mining and forestry industries. She has experience negotiating self-government arrangements and Treaty land entitlement agreements. Sonia has advised on the Indian Act, negotiated two arrangements under the First Nations Commercial and Industrial Development Act, and negotiated regulatory arrangements under the First Nations Land Management Act. Sonia served in a senior capacity with the Government of Saskatchewan for a decade and has a deep understanding of provincial and federal processes. This experience in the public sector is instrumental in providing Indigenous clients with sound strategic and legal advice when dealing with the Crown. Sonia speaks frequently at conferences in Canada dealing with Aboriginal legal issues such as consultation and accommodation, self-government, and removing legal barriers for project development on reserve.
