Sonia's life work in microbiology in organic farming systems has culminated in a research degree in molecular biology - Accelerated Thermophilic Aerobic Digestion (ATAD) for Rapid Composting at the Institute for Future Farming Systems, Central QLD Innovation and Research Precinct. Sonia has in-depth knowledge of waste management of organic matter, novel microorganisms, soil amendments and biological production.Her ability to transcend writing styles is evident as following her literary fiction writing, her career path has taken her into the field of academia. Sonia completed her peer-reviewed research thesis in 2023 and a Springer Nature book volume chapter on the role of novel microorganisms in soil carbon sequestration and plant health in the same year. Prior to this Sonia published corporate reports for the Grape and Wine Research Development Corporation on native ground cover crops in vineyards.Sonia draws on her experience in Nursing, Accounting specialising in SMSF, Swimming Instructing, and over twenty-five years experience in sustainable land management on organic, permacultures and regenerative farms and has spent half a decade in organic and biodynamic vineyards, and farms throughout Queensland, New South Wales, New Zealand, Sonoma Valley and remote islands in the South Pacific. Sonia branched into winemaking then cheesemaking and has a focus on gourmet and native foods in subtropical Queensland and Fiji. Through her affiliations with the not-for-profit organisation, Organic Matters Foundation, Sonia teaches 'Remote Island Soil Education', soil microbiology and production of natural fertilisers in remote South Pacific Islands.
