I grew up in Indiana, where many brands in the CPG universe reigned supreme: we drank Pepsi, we had Kraft Singles in the fridge, and I remember dying for my mom to buy me Wonder Bread for my school lunch. When I was 12, I went on my first international trip to India with my dad, to see his birthplace and meet some of his family. I distinctly remember seeing a billboard for Wrigley's gum and being completely overwhelmed by the thought that in a country so foreign in every way, I had common ground with India's chewing gum. But that's the power of a brand. I believe that building a brand is the ultimate exercise in storytelling because brands live with you for (hopefully) your whole life-- they mean something beyond what a carbonated liquid or a piece of edible rubber ever could.That's why I love every part of building a brand; from consumer insights, to brand strategy, to creative development-- because we're creating an entity that has the power to live beyond us, to effect change, and to make a 12-year-old girl on the other side of the world feel like she's home again.
