About Sonia Chavez
Hi there! I’m Sonia Chavez, and I’m passionate about matching talented individuals with opportunities that help them thrive. My career journey began two decades ago as an IT recruiter on the agency side. I then transitioned into corporate roles and after years of diverse experiences, I found myself at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), leading the Talent Acquisition team. It was here that I truly fell in love with the Diamond, Gem & Jewelry industry. Working at GIA was incredibly fulfilling; I grew a dynamic team, and the relationships I built there were the best part of my time. I thought my time in this fascinating industry would come to an end when I concluded my time there. However, the entrepreneurial spirit within me had always wanted to start my own business. In 2022, I took the plunge and founded The CAZA Collective. Inspired by my Latin heritage, the name ‘CAZA’ means ‘hunt’ in Spanish, reflecting the recruiter’s pursuit of top talent. Initially, I planned to leverage our broad recruitment experience as a team, but an "aha" moment changed everything. Bringing on my former GIA colleague, Zaudy Miranda, as my business partner, she recalled the struggle to find specialized recruiting resources in the gem and jewelry field. This realization made it clear that we could fill that void and focus on this unique industry. At CAZA, we specialize in matching skilled professionals with the unique needs of companies in the Diamond, Gem & Jewelry industry. From gemology and design to retail, technology, marketing, and corporate roles, our deep understanding of the industry makes us the go-to resource for all facets within this field. We’re not just filling positions; we’re helping businesses by sourcing the hard-to-find talent that will drive their success by focusing on the skills and characteristics that ensure the right fit for the role through holistic candidate evaluation. In addition to my work at CAZA, I am a member of the Women's Jewelry Association (WJA). I also serve on the Board of Directors for the Encinitas Community Resource Center (CRC), supporting the community with emergency assistance, domestic violence shelter, counseling, housing stability, food access, and healthy relationships. Supporting our local communities and driving economic vitality is something I care deeply about. When I’m not working, you can find me exploring new music, dancing, volunteering in my community, or planning my next adventure. I’d love to connect and see how we can collaborate. Feel free to reach out here on LinkedIn. Looking forward to connecting!
