The project was completed in two phases: the first phase was completed in 1960 and consisted of construction of dam, irrigation tunnels and installation of four power generating units, 40 MW capacities each with 132 kV transmission system. Two additional generating units (41.5 MW capacity each) were added in 1980 in a second phase. The total installed capacity of the power station thus became around 243 MW.AFD Co-financed by the European Union, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and KfW, the rehabilitation project for the 243 MW Warsak hydroelectric power station, which produces nearly 1,000 GWh/year, is helping solve the energy crisis by enabling the Government of Pakistan to maintain a production capacity that is both inexpensive and non-emissive.Role and ResponsibilitySupervise environmental aspects of construction projects for regulatory compliance.Ensure adherence to environmental regulations and project plans through regular site inspections.Approve environmental documents like EHS Plan, Method Statements, risk assessments and impact assessments.Interface with regulatory bodies to secure and maintain necessary permits.Prepare and submit environmental compliance reports.Address and resolve environmental issues and non-compliance incidents.Provide updates and address concerns with clients and contractors.Train construction teams on environmental best practices.Conduct and develop mitigation strategies for environmental risk assessments.Implement sustainable practices in the project.Lead responses to environmental incidents.Maintain high standards in all environmental activities.Advocate for environmental performance enhancements.Collect and analyze environmental data.Represent client's environmental interests in meetings. It focuses on increasing irrigation supplies in three districts, namely Mohmand, Khyber and Bajaur to increase crop production and harvest water sustainably. The project is being proposed as a result of the Water Assessment Study executed under the completed ADB supported FATA Rural Development Project of former FATA Secretariat. The study identified 40 watersheds where the groundwater aquifers are depleting at a high rate, even under average weather conditions due to unplanned water extraction for irrigation and other associated purposes. It recommends shifting from groundwater to surface water, which remains totally unutilized, and identified potential sites for small reservoir dams and diversion weirs in the 40 watersheds of Mohmand, Khyber and Bajaur Districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.ADB approved, on 15th December 2014, the Federally Administered Tribal Areas Water Resources Development Project (Project) contributing $42.97 million from ADB’s Special Funds. The Government will contribute $4.93 million as counterpart fund.
