As a senior manager in packaging product manufacturing facilities I have held a number of roles – often simultaneously – in operations management, quality management and new product development because I love the challenge of being in a medium size business as the MD’s ‘operations person’ with the flexibility to cross all three disciplines. Effectively working in one organisation for ten years, I was rapidly promoted through the business taking on these various roles. I always bring ‘right first time’ quality consciousness to my work whether I’m setting up a Quality Assurance function to international BRC IOP standards or integrating quality practices into a manufacturing process. I have a very strong technical aptitude – a sought after quality in medium business operation management. My technical abilities come into play both in trouble shooting plant and equipment issues on the factory floor and in understanding the capabilities and limitations of the equipment. This is key to developing high quality products that generate revenue for the business.Critically important in all owner managed businesses is the ability to be innovative and find low cost solutions to issues whilst maintaining high quality and value. I find this challenge exciting and motivating and it has led me to finding creative solutions for customers such as: – solving packaging problems- creating user friendly in-production Certificate of Analysis, usually requiring specialised software and advanced skills- developing cutting edge recyclable packaging materials.
