Humane Evolutie (Human Evolution) is a 2nd year BSc course for biology and Health & Life sciences students. During my student assistantship, I graded 60 papers using a rubrics concerning various human evolutionary topics. I was responsible for grading the papers from Health & Life sciences students.

VU:Sci is an online magazine that is created by and for our Life Sciences Master and PhD student community at VU Amsterdam.

As a host for studygroup Pizza4Python (https://pizza4python.com/), together with fellow students I hosted coding study sessions for Master and PhD students. During my time as host, I organised lectures, aided students in coding & data analysis, collected educational resources, conducted promotional activities and gave lectures myself.

Antibiotic Resistance Genes in Cystic Fibrosis: A metagenomics approach to detect antibiotic susceptibility in sputum samples of CF patients

I supported the department of head-neckoncology and surgery in scientific research. I included patients for scientific research, transcribed patient interviews, made follow-up appointments for scientific research and processed data.

During a codecamp children (8-13) learn the basics of programming via the game Bomberbot. They also learn how to make a website using HTML and CSS or learn how to make their own video games via Bomberbot Create. I help them acquire these skills, assist them with any problems and also give them an exciting week they'll never forget. I also give workshops on ‘media wisdom’.

I give practicals on various topics to bachelor of medicine students.

The mission of the Betapartners is to make students enthusiastic for a career in the beta sciences. It does so by participating in activities, such as the Betaday and the Girlsday, and by offering supplementary activities for high school students, such as masterclasses and offering guidance for their ‘profielwerkstuk’, an end piece every high school student has to write.

I support the ELSI (Ethical, Legal, and Societal issues concerning personalized medicine and biobanking) team as part of the servicedesk and in current research projects. I conducted semi-structured patient interviews and questionnaires in a research project about the communication and transparency to cancer patient concerning the use of their medical data for scientific research. https://www.elsi.health-ri.nl/

Project title: Ethical and legal issues concerning biobanks and the use of big data for researchI worked for the ELSI team (Ethical, Legal, and Societal Issues concerning personalized medicine and biobanks). I gained experience in writing texts for websites meant for both professionals and the general public. I performed qualitative analyses on patient interviews.

Project title: development of a molecular tool: creating an obligate heterodimeric beta-clampDuring this project I performed regular cloning, IVA cloning, plasmid isolation, protein expression, protein purification, protein stabilisation and protein verification experiments.

For several years, I worked in the bookshop of my Mom. I performed almost every task my Mom did in the shop – from helping customers to ordering new supplies and deciding what school supplies we were going to sell this year. With my Mom’s bookshop I really grew up with books and my love for them comes from this. This is why, during my bachelor Biomedical Science, I decided to do a minor in literature. Now my love for books presents itself in a huge bookshelf and me traveling through the country to several book events, to get a chance to meet my favourite authors.
