I left my position at BBH London when British shorthair kitten (Percy) entered my life and inspired the start of Cheshire & Wain. I was unenthused by what was on offer to accessorise and entertain my new feline friend and spotted a gap in the market for cat products that were beautiful, well made and most importantly, safe.Launching the business through the Prince's Trust Enterprise Programme with the help of a mentor, the company took its namesake from two of my favourite cat world personalities - The Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland and eccentric British cat artist Louis Wain – with both influences noticeable in the brand today.First presenting a core line of luxury cat collars, which introduced the brand's now distinctive and stylish design of quality leather complete the discreet breakaway buckle, Cheshire & Wain was the first company to make leather cat collars with a breakaway safety catch. When I started the business, luxury collars were made using elastic or, worse still, featured no safety mechanisms at all and I set out to change that! Over the years, I have continued to grow Cheshire & Wain’s offering to include a desirable edit of cat lifestyle products that are sourced, designed and manufactured to the highest possible standard. Ensuring cats worldwide have only the best, Cheshire & Wain enriches their nine lives with a permanent collection of beautiful luxury leather collars in an array of hues, toys with personality, handmade ceramic bowls, stylish Cat Cloud® thermal cat beds, custom engraved ID tags and luxe collar accessories. The brand has also set new standards in feline safety and style with our innovative high visibility Lumino Reflective Cat Collar range. In 2019, Penelope (also a British Shorthair) joined Percy, with the two quickly becoming firm friends inspiring me to dream up new ways to spoil them and keep them amused. Cheshire & Wain's credentials as purveyors of luxury cat products for fancy felines have also led to interest from leading high-end department stores, with Harrods and Fortnum & Mason now stocking our wares. Additionally, the company also caught the eye of STUDIOCANAL, who made Cheshire & Wain one of the key launch partners for the cinema release of The Electrical Life of Louis Wain (2021), starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy.
