She joined SDI at its inception in 2004 and was a big part of SDI's growing success - bringing new Scottish documentary on the map. She led SDI to its charitable status in 2019. She co-founded SDI Productions Ltd in 2007 as SDI’s production arm, taking talent from shorts to features. In 2021 she founded Sonja Henrici Creates Ltd for all her future creative and production work.She was co-director of the international producer programme Interdoc, in collaboration with Initialize Films (2008-2012), and launched Make Your Market (2016) in collaboration with We Are The Tonic.In 2011 she set up Scotland's first "PMD"​ role (aka "Producer for Marketing and Distribution"​), through "Virtuous Circle" investment by Creative Scotland, designed to test alternative distribution and business models. Jury duties include: IDFA, Sheffield, Dokufest, BAFTA Scotland, Irish Film & TV Academy. She has consulted at Mar Doc Lab (Argentina), and has chaired & spoken at int. industry panels. She is an RSA Fellow, a Member of AMPAS; PACT; Independent Producers Scotland (IPS), DPUK, BAFTA Scotland, and the international documentary film community.

My formative early career years. I worked 5 inspirational editions of EIFF, 3 years (2000-2002) as permanent member of 9 core staff, which taught me many skills and gave me unparalleled insight into international event-planning, marketing, database and website strategy and implementation, VIP protocol, business management. I interfaced with every aspect of the film industry from production to distribution, funding and sponsorship. I was industry desk manager in my first year, and from 2000, as core administrative staff, I was assistant to the Artistic and Managing Directors. As well as assisting them, I started coordinating the industry department which included industry event programming and delegate liaison, and oversaw the first year transition to a digital online submission process with Withoutabox. I also ran the VIP guest list, seating plan and the ticketing of the ever popular Opening and Closing Night events.
