About Sonny Smith

I just published my first book, UT PROSIM: That I May Serve - A Written and Pictorial History of the Virginia Tech War Memorial, in July 2022. It's available at: https://www.sonnysmithfatcat.org. I'd love to hear from everyone!In addition to my writing and research, I'm a Security Director, Professor, Program Director, State and federal Law Enforcement Agent/Officer with significant experience in emergency management, financial crimes investigations, physical security assessments, budgeting, organizational change and program management. A manager with Human Resource experience whose hands-on work experience enables me to evaluate, guide, and counsel professional staff. I'm an effective communicator with individuals and groups with the interpersonal skills to build relationships with individuals, teams, and cooperating agencies. I've managed and participated in over 200 security, threat and vulnerability assessments at multiple sites across the world. I've conducted Federal and State criminal and civil investigations, and he have served on an International Nigerian Fraud Task Force, while stationed in Lagos, Nigeria, as well as on Federal and State Criminal Task Forces. I have served as a Lecturer and as an Adjunct Professor at four (4) universities and has taught or developed curricula in over 10 different course subjects. I have a PhD, and a Master of Public Administration and Public Affairs from Virginia Tech's Center for Public Administration and Policy in Blacksburg, VA, and a Bachelor of Arts in Government from The College of William and Mary.
