She appreciates the opportunity to work with other leaders in the community with a vision to advocate for first-generation students and expand the educational system with opportunities such as nursing, teaching, and speech pathology. The impact on these college students and their communities is especially explosive, as graduates’ deeper level of knowledge and expertise begins to serve new sectors of society and elevate global conversations.Sonnya is an active member of Nevada Women’s Philanthropy, serving as chair of the Grant Screening Committee. Nevada Women’s Philanthropy (NWP) is a member-driven, pooled-fund, large-impact grant-making organization established to address the needs of the greater Las Vegas community. The membership consists of philanthropically motivated women, united by a powerful desire to address emerging issues facing our community in the areas of arts, education, environment, social services, and health.As a long-standing member of the Junior League of Las Vegas, Sonnya held substantial positions of increasing responsibility and accountability since 2010. Key successes include Gala Fundraising Chair 2013, Provisional Member Chair 2014, VP of Community Relations 2016, VP of League Operations 2017, and President 2018. Sonnya remains an active sustaining member chairing the 75th Anniversary Chair 2018 – 2021 and advising active members in leadership positions. Sonnya earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of New Mexico. Sonnya was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM. She is an adventurous traveler and voracious reader.
