About Sonny E. Kirkley

With over 20 years of experience in innovation, entrepreneurship, and design, I lead cutting-edge projects and programs that leverage augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT) to create impactful solutions for first responders and enterprises. I am the Program Director of the First Responder Smart Tracking Challenge (FRST Challenge) at Indiana University Bloomington, an innovation competition focused on indoor 3D tracking for first responders, funded by NIST PSCR with US$5.7 million in prizes.I am also the President of iMixedReality and Zenext, two companies that develop AR, MR, and virtual reality (VR) enterprise solutions, with a current product focus on crisis and disaster response operations and training. I have co-founded seven high-tech companies and mentored numerous company founders, securing over $22 million in R&D funds from various agencies and organizations. I have overseen the design and development of 16 products and coordinated virtual and in-person teams to create 30+ prototypes, publishing and presenting extensively in the areas of human-computer interaction design, AR, MR, advanced technologies for performance support and instruction, and serious games. My mission is to use emerging technologies to enhance learning, collaboration, and performance across industry sectors.
