I am involved in several funded and unfunded transportation research projects at UNC Charlotte. They range from operational analysis, planning, modeling to safety evaluations. Some of the the key projects are: Operational and Economic Impacts of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles, Modeling and Predicting Geospatial Teen Crash Frequency, Mini-roundabout CMF Development, Researching Relationships Between Truck Travel Time Performance Measures and On-network and Off-network Characteristics, and Effect of the Weather Events on Travel Time Reliability and Crash Occurrence.

My doctoral research was focused on modeling the annual average daily traffic (AADT) for local functionally classified roads. Annual average daily traffic (AADT) for all road links are important for reporting, transportation planning, safety analyses, and decision-making. The count-based AADT are available for all major and minor roads in North Carolina, USA. However, they are hardly available for 1.5% of the 700,000+ local road links in North Carolina, USA. We defined and explored explanatory variables such as connectivity type, road density,distance to the nearest nonlocal road, and AADT at the nearest nonlocal road in addition to otherroad network, demographic/socioeconomic, and land use variables for estimating AADT of localroad links. We explored and compared the predictability of five different modeling methods at statewide and countywide.

I have worked on evaluating the effect of large-scale transportation projects like toll roads and light rail transit (LRT) systems on road traffic travel time reliability.

I have worked on evaluating the mixed traffic flow characteristics of a roundabout as part of the Indian Highway Capacity Manual (Indo-HCM)
