Dr. Sonya Merrill is an accomplished businesswoman, organizational strategist, entrepreneur, academician, researcher, mentor, and coach. During her expansive career as a company officer and managerial professional, she has led large groups and small teams, developing individuals for leadership positions along the way. She has a proven track record in organizational and Federal program management, finance, insurance, health care management, public health education campaigns, client relations, research, career management coaching, and college instruction. In 2008, Dr. Merrill chose to share her extensive experience with professionals in career transition and with organizations seeking to develop their business strategies. As the founder of Transformative Discovery, LLC., Dr. Merrill strives to become the resource that professionals and organizations select on the path to purposeful and fulfilling performance. Specialties include: Business process consulting, talent management, creation of business and succession plans, new business capture/growth management, branding, change management consulting, federal project management, public health service delivery plans and policy, and grant reviews. Dr. Merrill is also a seasoned focus group moderator and group facilitator.Effective October 2022, Dr. Merrill transitioned to the position of Employer Development Consultant for Government| Non-Profit| International Development at the GW Center for Career Services. In this position, Dr. Merrill continues to serve students by developing employer relationships in these industry sectors and welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with employers interested in recruiting GW students. From February 2013 to October 2022, she served as the GW Center for Career Services Senior Industry Consultant/STEM Industry Career and Graduate School Strategies Coach. As a Certified Career Management Coach and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) Certified Practitioner, Dr. Merrill supported the career objectives of students majoring in the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). She also held (and continues to hold) the position of part-time instructor for the First Year Experience Courses in GW's Elliott School of International Affairs and in the Columbian College of Arts and Science.Dr. Merrill’s credentials include: Ph.D. in Business Administration (Temple University); Master’s Degree in Business Administration (Drexel University); Master’s Degree in City Planning (University of Pennsylvania); BA in Political Science (University of Pittsburgh).
