Sonya is principal at Sonya Baker-Hallett & Assoc. Consulting. She is a longtime consultant for Indiana Philanthropy Alliance, serving as program advisor for the Lilly Endowment Inc. Indiana Community Foundation Internship program, Mutz Philanthropic Leadership Institute, and Foundation Legal Help Desk, along with several other state and national clients such as Kansas Association of Community Foundations, Franklin College, La Plaza, JCDC, and Johnson Grossnickle & Associates.Sonya has been in the philanthropic foundation field for more than 25 years. She began as a youth representative on the Johnson County Community Foundation, serving for 10 years before becoming the foundation’s president and CEO. Sonya has also taught as adjunct faculty with the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, created and led Franklin College’s nonprofit certificate program, and was executive director of The United Philanthropy Forum’s Indiana Giving Ventures program.She compiled, edited, and published an extensive guidebook for families to consider charitable estate planning and has written for several development and nonprofit organizations. She is co-founder of the Youth Philanthropy Initiative of Indiana and volunteers for several other local and state organizations. Sonya has a BABA and an MEng, and is an alumna of Franklin College, Leadership Johnson County, and the University of Indianapolis. She splits her time between Indiana and Florida, and her daughter, Meredith, is now attending college in Ohio.Sonya is a writer/editor and speaker on topics that include philanthropy, giving circles, planned giving, proposal writing, voluntarism and community involvement for organizations such as WFYI TV-20, United Way of Indiana, Lilly Endowment Inc.’s GIFT Program, the Johnson County Development Corporation, and Franklin College’s Center for Community Partnerships. Sonya is an avid traveler. She has taken advantage of several trips offered through The Johnson Memorial Women’s Adventure Trips, hiking throughout the US and abroad. She has also assisted Franklin College’s travel programs and traveled to Peru, Spain, Brasil, Italy, France, England, Ireland, Scotland, South Africa, Turkey, Greece, Viet Nam...and on to the next adventure.
