About Sonya L. Aston

***Sonya Aston is a Candidate for the 157th State Judicial District for the November 2022 Election. For more information visit https://www.sonyaastonforjudge.com/ ***In the last 25 years, I have primarily prepared for the unexpected and responded to emergency/urgent matters. Currently, I am general counsel to Senator Paul Bettencourt; I advise on elections, government relations, legislation, and election integrity; and I am general counsel to small businesses. Recently, I commanded the 2nd largest election entity in the nation with over 60 permanent employees and 6,000 temporary employees for 2.3 million registered voters. Every election was, at a minimum, a six week emergency. As an attorney and consultant, I am using my expertise to prepare companies to avoid/minimize emergencies and create a stronger more stable environment. While I provide legal support to businesses in general, I have the added benefit of providing assessment and solutions to businesses to protect their assets through business continuity strategies, trademark, change management oversight, emergency preparedness, crisis management strategies and expense reduction. As an attorney, my varied experience has granted me the opportunity to learn and research many different disciplines and successfully guide my clients. Throughout my career, I have worked closely with business leaders, governmental offices, state and federal representatives and senators, political party leaders, political entity leaders and civic leaders to ensure compliance with laws. I actively work with the Harris County's Office of Emergency Management to disseminate public information to stakeholders and reporters world-wide during emergency events. While leading elections, I reduced legal missteps at the polls by 30 % every election and implemented programs saving millions of dollars, through training of over 1400 judges and policy development. Specialties: Business Contracts, Emergency Preparedness, Crisis Management, Election Administration, Compliance, Public Law and Environmental law.
