Responsibility for ensuring environmental and sustainability issues are identified and managed on all operational sites and pipelines and on any new project within a contract that provides an operational and maintenance service across the Government Pipeline and Storage System, including COMAH (Control of Major Accidents and Hazards) sites. Producing and managing new systems and procedures appropriate to the contract which has a turnover of £75 million over 3 years. • Developing, reviewing and improving company Environmental Management System (EMS) certified to ISO 14001:2004 and supporting OHSAS18001.• Managing sustainability objectives and targets, including KPI setting and progress reporting, producing environmental section of Contract Business reports. • Mentoring environmental graduates, participating in performance review and target setting.• Liaising with the Environmental Agency, SEPA and HSE as Competent Authority on COMAH site requirements and managing required environmental and containment improvements.• Managing the application of environmental consents, permits and exemptions.

Uk Wide

Responsible for ensuring the newly acquired company, Promanex (Costain Support Services) achieved ISO 14001: 2004 and OSHAS 18001. • Managed environmental and sustainability issues on projects including maintenance, operations, facilities management and civil engineering work on power station, chemical plants and nuclear power stations.• Monitored and reported on sector KPIs.• Identified training needs including production and provision of specialist training, e.g. pollution response training.• Mentored environmental graduates, participating in performance review and target setting.

North

Ensured the responsible management of sustainability on regional and sector projects during prequalification, tender and construction phases ranging in value from £3 million - £190 million within Highways, Water, Waste, Education, Health, Oil and Gas and Retail sectors. • Supported projects in achieving BREEAM and CEEQUAL awards.• Monitored and reported on Regional KPIs, Safety, Health and Environmental to ensure Group requirements were met and exceeded where possible. • Produced and delivered training for all levels of the business including clients, e.g. 4 day Environmental Awareness course.• Planned Health, Safety and Environmental Awareness Day events and presented Group Environmental Vision and Strategy.• Mentored environmental graduates, participating in performance review and target setting.• Promoted initiatives to clients, including assessment days and validation audits. • Environmental support for Work Winning teams, including presentation to clients and attending specialist interviews.• Identified best practice on site and shared within the Region and the wider group.

Yorkshire

Responsible for environmental and sustainability issues on over 300 waste water schemes over a 5 year framework period, turnover £180 million over 5 years. Instrumental part of the team in procuring the AMP4 framework. • Production and development of bespoke environmental systems and procedures based on client’s requirements ensuring compliance and best practice. • Development, review and improvement of company Environmental Management System (EMS) certified to ISO 14001• Production and implementation of environmental tools for use by offices and projects, e.g. carbon monitoring to support Group KPIs.• Production and delivery of training to all levels of the business, e.g. Waste Management course.• Environmental support for Work Winning teams, including presenting to clients and attending specialist interviews.• Liaison with Environment Agency in obtaining water consents and waste exemptions.
