Star Energy Solutions is an independent energy management consulting firm providing end-to-end energy management solutions for commercial and industrial clients. As a Director at Star Energy, Sooria has built and led a high performance team of 8 Energy Engineers and Analysts to conduct energy audits, and offer turnkey solutions to different types of industrial and commercial facilities. Specialized services were offered across various technologies ranging from Industrial Refrigeration, through HVAC, Waste Water Treatment, Rotating Machinery (Pumps, Fans and Compressed Air Systems) up to CHP. Generated and directed the execution of over 40 energy efficiency projects and studies (ASHRAE Level 3) and increased company revenue 3 fold over the past year. Sooria has also developed customized calculation methodologies, simulation models and templates to accurately calculate baseline and energy savings according to IPMVP for complex industrial systems(e.g ammonia refrigeration system, aeration blowers, temperature setback for PTAC)

As a Senior Energy Engineer, Sooria has conducted more than 100 technical reviews and financial evaluation of energy efficiency projects and studies prior to recommendation for financing under the saveONenergy Process and Systems Upgrades Initiatives (PSUI). During his tenure, Sooria also led and mentored a team of 10 Energy Engineers to navigate through the program rules and technical assessment techniques. Sooria's long term experience with rotating equipment was leveraged to provide subject matter expertise support in various applications and he worked with site engineers and technical personnel to identify energy savings opportunities within their facilities.Part of the duty of a Senior Energy Engineer was also involved in conducting Measurement and Verification (M&V) for tracking energy savings according to the IPMVP.

Sooria worked with clients to provide optimum pumping solutions to specific applications. with special focus on multistage pumps applications in power plants and SAGD. The activities involved Project Management and Contract Handling and technical support to the Sales Team.

Sooria provided engineering support in power transmission for sizing and selection of gear drives for various types of applications ranging from industrial facilities to commercial applications such as lifts etc.Special focus was on quality of customer service, and client satisfaction.

Mauritius

Sooria founded Energy Concepts to provide energy management consulting services in various types of manufacturing facilities ranging from textile to food processing to identify energy savings opportunities.He had designed and implemented a flash steam recovery system for Princes Tuna (Mauritius) and achieved a saving of more than 25% on the plant’s fuel billHe has also designed and implemented a heat recovery system from hot gases from textile dryers for a major group of textile companies (CIEL Group) in Mauritius with payback of less than 3 years

As an engineering team lead Sooria was responsible to manage a team of 60 technicians and 6 engineers for equipment maintenance in the five different manufacturing plants across the island. Sooria had a special focus on energy efficiency projects and equipment upgrades. A few achievements involve the design and implementation of an integrated heat recovery system to recover waste heat from dyehouse effluent, flash steam from condensate, waste heat from exhaust of textile drying machines, steam boilers and from air compressors cooling system, to realize an overall fuel savings of more than 40%. Sooria passionately built simulation models for monitoring heating and cooling process parameters in dyeing on a micro basis to assist in energy demand management. A significant part of Sooria's engineering work involved pipe sizing for steam, water, thermal oil and compressed air for multiple expansion projects.
