I became hooked on analytic tools during my first job after university, at a large retail head office – they were one of the first companies in the UK to implement an “OLAP” solution (I had no idea what that was back then). I was lucky enough to be one of the chosen few to use it and they’ve part of my working life ever since. Despite so many advancements in technology during my 20 years as a consultant, I still see the same problems within Finance departments – silos of data, disconnected spreadsheets, too much time spent accessing the data, fixed budget cycles, inflexible forecasting that can’t respond to our quickly changing economic environment. That is why I still love what I do – helping finance departments become more efficient & effective. Having trained as a Management Accountant and worked in commercial finance roles, I have an appreciation of the challenges involved and how a BI solution can help.
