Interdisciplinary visual artist working at the intersection of design, fine arts, new media, social practice, and cultural anthropology. Experienced writer, researcher, and strategic planner, constantly observing fields of knowledge production, popular media, and contemporary art issues.From 2022 to 2023, I lived and worked in Thailand as a Fulbright Research Fellow affiliated with Chiang Mai University in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Through experimental ethnography, I explored the politics of belonging in kantreum musical arts in Surin province (and Lower Isan), along the Thai-Cambodian border. Positing kantreum as an enduring intermediary of cultural past and present, I observed its trajectory renegotiating identity claims within contentious spaces of citizenship, heritage, and language rights. My focus on kantreum and Northern Khmer indigeneity are part of my longstanding research interests in legacies of cultural labor and performance, state formation, border conflict, identity politics, and counter-memory in continental Southeast Asia.
