I helped found, grow, and manage a large division of Uber's mapping organization. After growing the routing and navigation team from 3 engineers to 24 engineers in 2 years, I wanted to return to engineering and became one of the founding engineers for the Uber Freight team.As a manager, my focus is on people and team happiness and leading a smooth and diverse team:- Responsible for building and maintaining one of Uber’s highest traffic systems, our routing engine that could handle half a million requests per second with a median response time of 2ms (https://eng.uber.com/engineering-an-efficient-route/) and for Uber’s in app driver navigation (https://newsroom.uber.com/a-new-navigation-experience-for-drivers/)- Delivered a global real time traffic system that had a less than two minute lag from driver location to routing engine update- Managed the maps routing team for two years and grew the team from 3 to 20+ members, including managing engineers and managers- Recruited and hired new grads, internal transfers, external acquisitions, senior engineers, and engineering managers- Oversaw engineering due diligence and transition of engineers from the acquisition of mapping company, DeCarta - Worked closely with over a dozen different teams to power their features and products with our routing engine, including UberPOOL and marketplace efficiency
