About Sophia Winston

Graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and University of Pennsylvania, Sophia is fluent in three languages - English, Portuguese, and Spanish and has a strong background in urban studies & planning. In 2018 Sophia was selected as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant to Brazil, where she worked at the Federal University of Vicosa as an English teacher and cultural ambassador. While living in a small town in Brazil's Atlantic Rain Forest, Sophia became interested in the intersection of urban planning and sustainable land use, which led her to pursue a Master's degree in City and Regional Planning at the University of Pennsylvania, focusing on Land Use and Environmental Planning. She worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in her final year of grad school, using her skills in GIS, data analysis, and land use planning to aid the instruction and management of 2 graduate level courses. Sophia was elected both 1st and 2nd year Student Planning Association Representative at the University of Pennsylvania's Stuart Weitzman School of Design where she acted as a liaison and organizer between the City Planning Faculty and City Planning Graduate Students.
