Entry level research on PET polymers, fibres, and yarns to determine their influence on microfibre shedding, found that:• UV exposure to be a significant trigger on lowering tenacity in polyester. • This observation was consistent across the varying yarn specs tested, with up to 42% tenacity reductions after 72hrs UV exposure.• Outputs led to significant industry interest and the formation of the www.microfibreconsortium.com in 2017
