Sophie Tatlow is director and art director of Utopia Goods Textiles. Founded in 2012, Utopia Goods, designed by Bruce Slorach and Sophie Tatlow, produces unique handcrafted treasures, home furnishings and quality interior fabrics inspired by exotic Australian botanicals. Entirely printed by hand, each print and piece is crafted in India honouring the tradition of India’s textile craft. From the textile print's illustrative inception, through to the woven process and final silk screen print, each fabric is carefully managed and overseen by their small and talented team.Building on a twenty-five year design portfolio, Tatlow together with Utopia Goods partner Bruce Slorach, have worked across various arts and industry sectors and disciplines frequently collaborating with consultants, architects, designers and other artists. Their work covers the full spectrum of design; from heritage interpretation, public art, brand strategy and design projects to publishing. They have worked with many of Australia’s leading corporate, public and private institutions, having recently completed a large commission for custom carpets for Government House (Sydney) featuring the waratah and eucalyptus (2021). Sophie and Bruce’s combined contribution to the Australian design landscape is limitless. Utopia Goods honours the past of textile tradition and craftsmanship, highlights the present and that the protection of our wild world and hand crafts is imperative, and holds a timeless quality that will live on in homes, interiors and projects even yet to be realised. Specialties: Tatlow has worked across a multitude of disciplines, everything from art direction, heritage interpretation, project management, copywriting, research, strategy, PR, HR, and advertising . For 21 years she was a director of Deuce Design, a multi disciplinary design studio, creating everything from architectural and environmental graphics, surface design, wayfinding, art installations, brand strategy and execution, exhibition and packaging design and heritage interpretation. Tatlow has completed studies at Chisholm (Monash University, Melbourne), Object Design at Enmore Design Centre (SIT) and completed an MA in writing at the University of Technology Sydney.
