About Sophie Fletcher

I specialise in hypnotherapy, mindfulness and coaching to optimise transition, ease change and help people unlock their potential. A best selling author with three books (published by Vermilion, Penguin), I have also been voice trained. My audio-tracks which are part of my books, are extremely popular and my author page has enjoyed a lengthy time as a top ten author page for Penguin globally. I have worked on private commissions for narration and have written and recorded unique audio-tracks both for individuals, and as an addition to corporate well-being resources. I can write a hypnosis track for anything. For example, if you run a travel company and want to give your clients a complementary track which helps to reduce their fear of flying, I can do that.As well as writing, public speaking and in-house consultancy work, I lecture and run workshops both within the private and public sector across the UK, and overseas, on hypnosis and mindfulness, and am experienced in antenatal wellbeing and menopause support in the workplace. I've worked as a consultant for organisations as broad ranging as the British Medical Association, through to The University of Nottingham. Alongside a passion for training I enjoy debunking myths around hypnosis, making it accessible. Hypnotherapy is hugely transformational and often more practically adaptive than other talking therapies, it can be delivered, and tailored, in ways that have a profound impact on wellbeing and productivity at home and at work. Although I am self-employed I've continued to nurture my corporate experience. From 2010-2013 I worked as Executive Director for the National Council for Hypnotherapy , focused on rebranding the organisation, restructuring and enhancing membership services. In 2013 I was awarded a Fellowship for services to the hypnotherapy profession. I rejoined the Board of the NCH in 2022 as Member Relations Director, helping to shape the member offer for both students new to the profession and established therapists. Before training in psychological therapies, I worked for nearly 10 years in the public sector as an Economic Policy Advisor, specialising in tourism, culture and sport, memorable projects were working on the economic outline for the Olympics and the commissioning of an international arts installation that was shown at the Venice Biennale.

  • Mindful Mamma
    Doula
Mindful Mamma Mar 2012 - Present
    Nottingham And Lincolnshire
While my children were still at school I worked part time as a doula. I supported couples from around 30 weeks pregnant, attending over 30 births where I had to work as a medical advocate, often in highly stressful situations, while still maintaining a calm, emotionally supportive environment. Whilst not giving medical advice I often had to learn quickly about challenging medical situations, understand the research, and be able to communicate it succinctly and clearly to my clients. This would sometimes mean negotiating different care paths with medical staff, that always kept my clients safe. My background in policy and strategy enabled me to quickly adapt to this role, as I learned to process and summarise large amounts of information quickly. Coupled with my training in talking therapies I was able to create a space in which I could help my clients have a positive experience, even when things didn't go to plan.
  • Mindful Mamma
    Chief Executive Officer
Mindful Mamma Jul 2008 - Present
    Uk
In 2008 I founded Mindful Mamma with Mia Scotland. I went on to train 500+ Mindful Hypnobirthing practitioners, and deliver training in the NHS to midwives and perinatal mental health teams. I wrote an extensive training course which was accredited by the Royal College of Midwives and has been used to support thousands of women both privately and in the NHS. Training was face to face until Covid, and then I had to act quickly to move the entire course online. As a result, I created a new online training product, that is working very successfully. This meant I had to familiarise myself with digital learning, both live and recorded. It introduced me to the incredible range of tools available for online learning, and I able to use immersive online multi-media approaches to learning and development, both on Zoom, Kajabi and Teams. Post covid I have continued to do CPD online, both in the UK and overseas. As part of this I also managed the PR and marketing, generating media coverage in national newspapers, BBC Radio and on television.
  • Mindful Hypnotherapy
    Clinical Hypnotherapist
Mindful Hypnotherapy Mar 2006 - Present
After working for nearly 10 years in economic policy, I chose to retrain and start my own company. Working to support and facilitate growth in small businesses strategically gave me the knowledge to do it myself and with a small family it helped me maintain a healthy work life balance. Something that I really value. In 2005 I retrained as a clinical hypnotherapist and started to grow not just a private practice, but also a sound business that develops individuals and teams, all underpinned by three best-selling books, with a global reach. As a small business starting out I had no budget for marketing or development, yet I was able to growth the business without paying for advertising or marketing, and just through word or mouth, blog writing, and social media. My strength is being able to work with people and bring out the best in them. I've learned an incredible amount about behavioural psychology since my early days as a manager in the public sector and can see how to support and mentor people so they are happy, supported and fulfilled in life, and at work. Clinical hypnotherapy is about seeing the link between the mind and the body, so I work not just with self-development but also on physical challenges, for example, IBS, weight-management, pain-management and so on. I am particularly interested in women's health, and in supporting women in the workplace through transitional change, such as moving into motherhood or moving through menopause. I have worked on the implementation of the menopause policy for the BMA, through to guesting as a lecturer at Nottingham University.
