Who remembers Newsround the UK news show for children? Well it’s that programme (and my parents love of the news) that first got me interested in the environment. When I was around 7 or 8 years old the news was full of the damaging effects of CFCs on the ozone layer and the Montreal Protocol had just been signed. Looking back, I probably wasn’t the 'normal' kind of kid. This interest in how humans are impacting the planet has continued ever since. Growing up I never knew you could work in these spheres. Kids from my school didn’t become climate scientists, meteorologists, authors and so on. Some of my year group went to university alongside me, but many left after their GCSEs. As a result my career path has been varied until I finally realised I could make my interest my job. I believe businesses should be a force for good. I love the triple bottom line approach of people, planet and profit. You don’t need to hurt or exploit people and the planet to make a profit. Businesses can benefit all three. Now I help businesses embrace sustainable regenerative business practices. My work is varied, from carrying out energy audits, calculating carbon footprints, developing carbon emission calculators, to developing corporate social responsibility strategies. As I am a qualified coach I use a coaching approach to businesses explore regenerative business models, helping you find opportunities for innovation. A need to give back to my local community has always been very important to me and lead me to working in the NHS. Whilst there I worked in marketing, communications and engagement roles and became fascinated with the psychology of change. Through this I became interested in coaching and once qualified I worked with people to improve their confidence, overcome imposter syndrome and helped leaders develop their leadership skills.Because I’m human I tend to talk about a variety of subjects that interest me. I will talk about the environment, the benefits of sustainability, mental health, nature and anything else that grabs my attention.

Leadership Development CoachNottinghamshire Health Informatics Service Sep 2016 - Mar 2020Sutton In Ashfield, NottinghamshireI find coaching really rewarding – there are very few things that offer the job satisfaction of supporting someone to reach and often exceed their goals. I am a firm believer that with the right mind set, determination, hard work and support people can achieve anything they want.Following a year of study, in September 2018 I gained a Practitioner Level Diploma in Coach Mentoring which is accredited by the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC). I am very lucky to be able to offer coaching services alongside my current communications and marketing role. -
Marketing And Communications ManagerNottinghamshire Health Informatics Service Apr 2015 - Mar 2020Sutton In Ashfield, NottinghamshireAs the head of the Communications and Marketing service line I act as a trusted advisor to the Director and senior management team. I develop and lead the execution of communications, marketing and engagement strategies, plans and activities.I lead the cyber security communications and engagement activities for the Nottinghamshire health community, which comprises of over 20,000 users across GP practices, Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), acute care and community healthcare providers.During the first six months with the Nottinghamshire Health Informatics Service I worked with the Director to produce a visual strategy to communicate the strategic direction in an engaging and understandable format. I also created a new powerful and instantly recognisable brand image that worked with the organisation’s existing logo. When the organisation was looking at merging with another NHS provider I co-ordinated the engagement and communications activities. Over the weeks our workforce actively participated in the process and engaged with their respective teams at the other organisation, keen to share best practice. Although the merger didn’t take place, the empathetic and open approach that was used fostered a stronger working relationship with the other organisation which still benefits both today. -
Communications And Marketing ManagerSherwood Forest Hospitals Nhs Foundation Trust Apr 2012 - Apr 2015Sutton In Ashfield, NottinghamshireI was actively involved in internal and external communications, liaising with the local, regional national and trade media outlets on a daily basis as well as managing the Trust’s website and social media channels.I also led all the marketing activities for the Trust that ranged from engagement events and promotional stands to a direct mail campaign, designing newspaper adverts and commissioning promotional videos. Within two years I had created 12 high quality videos, free of charge for the Trust, that have been viewed over 73,000 times. This role helped me to look at new (and very cost effective) ways to engage with my target audience, for instance I once borrowed a 12ft high pair of inflatable lungs to draw attention to an organ donation stand! During my time in this role I oversaw the Trust’s membership scheme that had over 21,000 members. This included managing the CRM database and its contract, developing the membership engagement strategy and associated plans, market segmentation and targeting, reviewing the membership offer, engaging and communicating with our members and organising events including the Annual Members’ Meeting/AGM. -
Primary Care Liaison ManagerSherwood Forest Hospitals Nhs Foundation Trust Jan 2009 - Apr 2012Sutton In Ashfield, NottinghamshireThis role was my first in the NHS and it was a great platform to understand many facets of the NHS! Working in an acute hospital I acted as the advocate and account manager for Primary Care. Within this role I analysed complex referral data to track patterns, identify services where referrals could be increased, produce reports for the Executive Board and divisional teams and segment the GP market. This information was used to create marketing strategies at a service level and engagement strategies which I wrote and executed. I introduced a bi-monthly newsletter and a highly successful programme of education sessions to strengthening working relationships between primary and secondary care, increase referral levels and ensure the referrals were appropriate. The education sessions were organised to ensure they offered vital networking opportunities to all attendees. In addition to sourcing speakers, arranging room hire, marketing the events and organising corporate sponsorship, I also worked with the local education boards to ensure the events could be used for CPD. Alongside this I also formed strong links with an external education provider who delivered sessions to our target market, sourcing speakers from the Trust to further promote the Trust and it services. -
