The Rural Municipalities of Alberta is an independent association comprising Alberta’s 69 counties and municipal districts. Since 1909, we have helped rural municipalities achieve strong, effective local government. The AAMDC provides Advocacy and Aggregated Business Services (including Trade, PFA Canada and Jubilee Insurance). As a Director for the Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) my duties included fiscal budgeting policy development, strategic and operational planning, management/operational oversight, risk management identification with subsequent policy development for our Advocacy and Aggregated Business Services, as well as Advocate for our members issues to Provincial and Federal governments.

Incorporated since 1955, RMA Insurance has a mission to enable rural municipalities to gain access to insurance when other insurance agencies could not, or were not able to, do so. Through a simple bulk buying concept, the business model RMA Insurance transitioned into was to utilize its independence, size and self-insurance capabilities to build Genesis Reciprocal, while still offering a purchase group insurance program to Insured organizations that do not fit the homogeneous categories required for Reciprocals. As a result RMA Insurance's current business profile enables non-profit organizations in Alberta to access and secure their insurance needs through two distinct types of insurance programs: 1) Reciprocal Insurance Exchanges and 2) Purchase Group Insurance Programs. As a Board Director for RMA Insurance and the Genesis reciprocal I am involved in governance, risk management identification/policy development, strategic and operational plan development, fiscal budgeting, management/operational oversight and investment policy decisions.

Alberta HUB is a Regional Economic Development Alliance consisting of 33 municipalities, 3 First Nation communities, 4 Metis Settlements, 2 colleges and 2 industry partners. Located in the Northeastern portion of Alberta, Northeast Alberta Information HUB Ltd also known as “Alberta HUB” is a Regional Economic Development Alliance (REDA). Our dedicated Executive Team, Board of Directors, and Membership work together to ensure a strong alliance is maintained with our local communities, businesses/industries, post-secondary educational institutions and government partners.The region we support is uniquely located in a triangle corridor between the high population center of Edmonton, the Saskatchewan border, and the resource rich areas to the north leading to Fort McMurray. Established in 2000 and incorporated as a not-for-profit society, Alberta HUB provides economic development support to its members and increases the awareness of our region. Our core areas of focus are: Investment and Business Growth – Stimulate and support wealth and quality of life in the Alberta HUB region through the promotion of entrepreneurship, expansion of existing businesses, and attraction of new business. Regional Collaboration and Community Readiness – Foster collaborative partnerships that support the strategic growth and economic sustainability of the Alberta HUB region, communities and businesses. Marketing and Communications – Promote the Alberta HUB region as an excellent choice to live, work and invest.

As an elected representative I participate generally in developing and evaluating the policies and programs of the municipality as well as set the overall budget for the municipality so services may be provided for the citizens of the County. I participate in council meetings and council committee meetings and meetings of other bodies such as Eagle Hill Housing, Alberta Central East Water Coop and Northeast Alberta HUB (REDA) to which I am appointed by council. Organisation policy development, strategic planning, risk management identification/policy development, management/operational oversight and asset management are a key duties which ensure proper governance and reserves are built to ensure the long term sustainability of the county infrastructure, roads, bridge network and capital property are properly maintained and funded.

Willingdon

I managed a mixed grain and cattle business. Although the figures changed from year to year I farmed 1500 acres of grain,pulse and oil seed land and worked 300 cattle mainly as a cow/calf, back grounding operation.

Edmonton, Canada

I purchased an area of east Edmonton and built the number one top grossing industrial catering route in the Edmonton region. As an owner operator I managed all facets of the business from customer relations to expansion of the customer base to managing cash flow and capital expenses.
