I am heading an academic research group, exploring enzymatic methods to upgrade materials from agriculture and forestry. I have a personal interest in metallo enzymes and have been fortunate to work with Lytic Polysaccharide Monooxygenases (copper), peroxygenases (iron), neutral proteases (zinc) to name a few. It is fascinating how proteins have evolved to harness metal ions and used the reactivity to shape the world. I hope to understand the activity and harness it for a more sustainable world, e.g. by bioethanol production, CO2 capture, plastic degradation, green chemistry. .
