About Sorrella Oldham-Smith Ceng Mice

Sorrella Oldham-Smith Ceng Mice is a Highly skilled Quality leader in Construction and Manufacturing. Colleagues describe them as "In terms of performance Sorrella has excelled during her time in ETW and has proven herself to be a quick minded, hard working and highly professional member of the team. Since the beginning of her placement she has been able to use her interpersonal skills to the benefit of the team by connecting us with people in her wide network of colleagues from across the graduate cohort, digital engineering and her previous site project team. She has also been able to draw upon her experience and knowledge from her time in digital engineering to help train and develop her colleagues within ETW, and is helping to make BIM the standard method of execution for temporary works designs. Sorrella is a quick learner, inquisitive and able to learn from her mistakes. She has shown a real desire to improve her technical understanding and has a thirst for understanding/knowledge which I feel is a great trait for an engineer. Within a couple of months into her placement she has been trusted to undertake detailed designs independently and demonstrates sound engineering judgement. She has good communication skills and is able to liaise with construction teams directly and has demonstrated personal courage with a calm and focused approach when faced with challenging conditions/people. In terms of business contributions away from the day job she has shown great enthusiasm and commitment to LOR and the GDP and has used her own leadership skills to found and lead the GDP15 action group, most notably initiating and organising the LOR debate series. Not only is she a driven individual but she also is keen to motivate and aid others in their development as demonstrated by her work to develop the GDP 15 Charter which helps the graduate cohort make the most of their opportunities on the GDP, drive their performance and support each other. She is a fantastic ambassador for the company and has represented LOR at numerous recruitment events and was invited to represent LOR at the 2018 Construction News industry awards Training Excellence final presentation round. Outside of work she further contributes through educational and charity work including her roles as a STEM ambassador, Alumni guest lecturer at UCL and through fundraising for RedR and Mind and championing their causes which earned her RedR’s Most Enthusiastic Ambassador award in 2016 for helping to raise over £7,000 for the charity. Sorrella has excellent time management skills and is able to balance all of her various commitments without compromising on her day to day responsibilities. Despite all her achievements to date she remains a down to earth, humble and approachable person. " and "Sorrella has been part of Enactus Bath in different roles over the past four years. Her biggest contribution to the team, to the community it strives to help, and to the Students’ Union(SU) it engages and represents was last year (2013/14)as its’ President. The big achievements which the Enactus group had last year were as largely a result of Sorrella’s strong and inspirational leadership which gave the group new direction and purpose. Her leadership and dedication filtered through to every member of the team and into every action the team took. This ranged from recruiting and training members using new procedures introduced by her, to empowering more people in the community than Enactus Bath had ever done. Sorrella trained up a brand new committee last year to lead on each of the agreed projects. Through her motivation, guidance and support the team members sustained their enthusiasm and commitment to the key goals throughout the whole year, including through the particularly challenging times around University exams. A key aim which she led on last year was to get Enactus Bath recognised on campus, in order to establish the sustainability of the group. She was personally responsible for organising several outreach events and a showcase presentation event to key stakeholders within the University and local communities. For the first time Enactus Bath won several SU awards including ‘best contribution to the community’ and ‘best overall activity group’. The group, under her leadership was also awarded several trophies at the National Enactus UK Competition. It also won the BANES Best Young Volunteer Team of the Year award 2014. Although it would be right to recognise the efforts of the whole Enactus team it is also fair to say that such achievements would not have been possible without Sorrella’s focus, motivation and leadership as President. Of the five Enactus Bath projects which operated through the year following her graduation, Sorrella was responsible for founding two (the youth project boosting youth employability, and the commercial venture, selling hoodies on campus). The youth project she founded, Bright Ways, works with local teenagers lacking qualifications, successfully helping them to develop key employability skills. As a result of her entrepreneurial flair, she was selected by the University to represent Bath at the MIT Global Startup Workshop in Morocco in 2014. Sorrella’s personal contribution to the group and to its’ work was recognised when she was awarded the single most prestigious national trophy at the Enactus National competition in 2014 - the Team Leader of the Year award. This recognised her excellent leadership qualities in creating a sustainable team of nearly 100 Bath students, enabling and inspiring more students than ever at Bath to benefit from the Enactus experience and in so doing, providing a measurable and sustainable contribution to the community Ian Robinson 2014 "
