  • University Of Florida
    Postdoctoral Associate
University Of Florida Apr 2011 - Mar 2017
    Greater Chicago Area
    • Led an international data analysis team within the CMS Collaboration (at the LHC) searching for particle decays into pairs of Higgs bosons (H), where both H decay to bottom quarks. Designed analysis strategy and code (C++) to separate weak signal of this process from large backgrounds. Published highly cited results in several peer reviewed journals• Invented the ``GaussExp" probability distribution function to describe signal and background events, now part of the ROOT library• Contributed to the discovery of the Higgs boson as part of the CMS Collaboration. Developed optimized trigger algorithms for H-->bb decays. Led to increased statistical sensitivity in the Higgs boson search, that contributed to its discovery in July 2012. Highest cited paper in the field. Analyses coded in C++ using the ROOT data analysis library
  • Fermilab
    Lpc Distinguished Researcher
    Fermilab Jan 2014 - Jan 2016
    Greater Chicago Area
    • Created the "Analytical Track Fitter" algorithm as a powerful alternative to existing algorithms used to fit particle tracks in CMS with low latency on an FPGA.• Created network-traversal algorithms to analyze arbitrary configurations of the Track-Trigger hardware and determine latency bottlenecks.
  • Cornell University
    Postdoctoral Visiting Fellow
    Cornell University Aug 2010 - Mar 2011
    Geneva Area, Switzerland
    • Used laws of quantum electrodynamics to predict first three-body decay involving charm quarks. Analyzed (C++) petabyte-scale electron-positron collision data at the CLEO experiment to observe decay with 5.3 sigma significance. Measured branching fraction and confirmed agreement with my prediction. Published in Physical Review D.
  • Cornell University

    Geneva Area, Switzerland
    • Creator and lead developer for the Pixel Online Software (POS) used to operate the Pixel Detector of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The Pixel Detector is a multi-million-dollar semiconductor detector for charged particles at the core of CMS. Built POS as multiple applications running over dozens of PCs, coordinating with SOAP messages, and communicating with electronics of the Pixel Detector. Also wrote calibration algorithms for the Pixel Detector. POS is one of the oldest and continuously running pieces of software at CMS since 2009. POS is written primarily in C++, with Java, HTML and Javascript for the web-UI. Awarded CMS Achievement Award by the Collaboration Board for this effort in 2008• Searched for three body decays of the first excited bound state of the charm-strange meson system.
