I’ve always believed that failure is a stepping stone to success. I was a two-time fencing champion; and a two-million-time fencing loser. The experience taught me that failure is worth it. One moment etched in my memory was when a senior referee approached me and my best friend, and said, "Ah, I remember you two..." To my friend, “You’re the one with the talent,” and to me, “and you’re the one with the mouth.” It was a delicious roast that underscored my knack for advocacy.My journey began with cofounding TritonTV at UC San Diego in 2011, where I transformed a fading TV station into a dynamic video production and peer education network, creating a bridge to the entertainment and journalism fields for my fellow students.After graduating from UCSD, I ran Space Dog Media, a video production house catering to high-profile clients like Salesforce, Zapier, King’s Hawaiian, the US Army National Guard, and RepairSmith, the latter of which I led to a $190m acquisition by AutoNation. The advertising industry’s shift toward social media led me to explore augmented reality, eventually competing in the MIT Reality Hack 2023. It was there that my teammates and I conceived Benvision, an assistive technology startup using AI, XR, and audio engineering to help the blind navigate the world through music and spatial audio cues. Winning the Inclusivity track at MIT launched us into the world of assistive tech.As the CEO and Cofounder of Benvision Inc, Public Benefit Corporation, I lead a multi-talented team dedicated to making the world more accessible for the visually impaired. Our innovative approach has garnered awards, press recognition, and a growing reputation in the tech industry. More than a tech startup, we’re advocating for societal inclusion of a community often overlooked in the name of profit and convenience.Outside of my professional life, I volunteer at a charity for the blind and enjoy rollerskating and exploring the outdoors with my amazing wife Kristine and our adorable dog Keith.My goal is to use my "mouth" for good. When I have the time, I speak publicly in my local business community, and at middle schools, high schools, and universities about technology and its potential for positive impact. Sometimes I still speak before I think, and other times I hold back when I should speak up. Either way, I’m always learning and growing from my experiences.
