About Jerry Stone

★ Updated Profile ★ Contact me ★I am a Freelance Space Presenter.I give presentations on astronomy and space exploration, I present space workshops for schools and as team-building sessions for organisations, I am an author, and I'm interviewed about space on radio and TV.In the current circumstances, where physical meetings are not possible, I still give presentations over the internet.Space exploration has been my life-long passion. I have promoted space by giving presentations around the UK and abroad since 1969.In 2004 I presented an 8-part evening course on Space Exploration at the University of Hertfordshire.I gave around 30 presentations a year when I was doing it in my spare time, and since 2006 I've been doing it for a living. Venues have included the Edinburgh Festival, The Palace of Westminster, the World Science Fiction Convention, Oxford University and Mars Society conferences in Europe and Colorado.I have been interviewed on TV and radio in the UK, the USA and in Romania, where they broadcast my footage of the 1999 eclipse. I have covered missions to the ISS for the BBC and Sky News (see photo above). My first public exhibition on space exploration was in 1975, and I staged a major event for the centenary of powered flight. Entitled “From the Wright Brothers to the International Space Station”, it was the only event outside the United States to be officially recognised by NASA, and attracted around 5,000 visitors. In June 2004 I set up “UK For Aurora”, a campaign to increase public awareness and support for UK involvement in this long-term ESA programme. Lord Sainsbury announced a £5million payment for the project, citing public support as a contributing factor towards the decision. In 2005 I established the Sir Arthur Clarke Awards to recognise and reward UK space achievement. Until 2010 I presented the awards at the annual UK Space Conference.I am now a freelance presenter on astronomy and space exploration, travelling all over the UK. As well as my public talks, I present a range of space workshops for schools, in which pupils can make and launch rockets, explore the solar system, design and build a Mars lander, and make a model of the International space Station - out of toilet rolls, pizza trays, lollipop sticks and kitchen foil! My aim is to use space to inspire students to follow courses in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.Specialties: Very experienced speaker on astronomy and space exploration, having started at school in 1969! Over 50 years of space presenting!

Listed skills include Astronomy, Systems Engineering, Program Management, Science, and 45 others.
