I am a perpetual student. When something catches my interest, I study and learn everything I can til I master it. I am a 20 year electrician. Currently I am learning the role of our education coordinator at my home IBEW local. My path was a little different than most. I started an apprenticeship directly after high school, advice from my mom. She said I would have a skilled trade that I could always fall back on AND be able to pay for my education without accruing a lifetime of student debt. I finally did get a degree 20 years later and she was right, I paid for it myself and have no student debt. Spending time on the family farm developed my strong work ethic and set my foundation of becoming a Jane of All Trades. I began an electrical apprenticeship in 2003, obtaining my license before the age of 25. I’m a certified cake decorator and enjoy making cakes for loved ones. After experiencing what I was told to be “chronic” pain, I delved into alternative medicine and now have a massage therapy certification, specializing in neuromuscular therapy. After nearly 15 years in the field, I branched into the teaching side of my industry. I am the Vice President of IBEW local 46 and an active member of our Women’s Committee. Your dreams are never too late to achieve. I’m nearly 20 years into a career I love as an electrician AND now have a college degree….debt free and living my best life. #Apprenticeship in the #IBEW made this happen for me. There’s nothing I can’t do, besides pee standing up without making a mess, and I look forward to what tomorrow has to offer.
