Hello! My name is Sparkle and I am the founder of Autism with DJ, an advocacy project aiming to increase awareness and support families impacted by autism.I started this initiative in March 2022, a little over a year after my eldest son, De’Unte Jr. (“DJ”), was diagnosed with autism and a developmental language disorder. At that time, I had limited knowledge about autism, but I was committed to deepening my understanding and supporting my son. I also felt a strong urge to assist other parents facing similar diagnoses, as I recognized that I was not alone on this journey. I turned to social media to share my daily life and experiences with DJ, along with helpful tips and valuable information. In just a few months, I established connections with hundreds of parents and families nationwide, fostering a supportive community and building a loyal following. Not long after, I created an online support group for parents. With the help and creativity of my husband, De'Unte Sr., I expanded my offerings to include a monthly newsletter, weekly social media discussions, a virtual conference, and a financial award program tailored for individuals on the autism spectrum. I also forged lasting partnerships with organizations such as A Friend like Zeek, Sensor E, and The Mocha Autism Network to offer in-person services to families in the local community and nearby areas.Originally designed for parents to connect, share their experiences, and find support, Autism with DJ has evolved into a platform that elevates the voices of individuals on the autism spectrum.
