As a Health Services Intern, I collaborated closely with the Health Program Coordinator, Health Aides, and local healthcare providers to advocate for the healthcare needs of refugee clients. My role involved networking with healthcare providers, coordinating client appointments, and providing medical case management services. I served as a patient advocate, accompanied clients to medical appointments, and assisted with referrals to specialist care. Additionally, I provided training to clients on making appointments, pharmacy services, and accessing medications. I also supported administrative tasks such as case filing, data entry, and helped build relationships with local healthcare actors to increase health resource availability. Through this experience, I gained knowledge about Medicaid eligibility and refugee health systems in Colorado, while working directly with multi-cultural individuals to address their unique health needs.
